![]() ![]() Brand new sounds in my mind But honey I'll be seein' you, ever, I go But honey I'll be seein' you down every road I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it." green light, lorde Blair Scout Addison was born and raised in Stamford, Connecticut and lived there until she was 13 years old when her parents divorced. It was an amicable split and they decided to sell the family home and split everying 50/50. Her dad took a job as a newspaper journalist in New York City and her mom moved to Boston when she transferred there as a Palliative Hospice Carer. Technically, Blair was the only girl born to the family with two younger fraternal twin brothers following her, Leon and Rory, but by Blair's 16th birthday, she had come out to her family as genderqueer and non-binary when she never quite connected with being either male or female (preference for she/her or their/them pronouns). She was delivered into the world with female anatomy but had ups and downs of tomboy phases her whole life, preferring unisex type toys and not particuarly finding interest in either dolls or cars. She didn't want to play dress-ups, have tea parties, or build Barbie's Dream Home. Nor did she want to play Cops and Robbers, fish for tadpoles, or play much sport. She was more into arts and crafts, and took a liking to writing like her dad. She was always up to her elbows in paint or glue or coloured paper. Her bedroom was filled with her own creations, and she had countless notebooks full of stories and poems. Despite all that, and despite never being sure if she should feel like a boy or a girl, she knew she wasn't transgender. She didn't feel like she had the wrong body. In fact, she was indifferent to it. It was a girl's body that did girl's things, and she was okay with that so long as she didn't have to live her life in pink, lacey shit, or high heels. Denim and leather were her comfort zone, as were boots, hair dye, and dramatic gender non-conforming makeup. Her brain kind of wrote her path for her without needing to stress on it too much. She did, though. At least a little, though more in a sense she was fascinated and curious about the process of discovering gender and paths of 'coming out' in people her age. She began to develop an interest in celebrities or people who chose to come out in the spotlight, becoming mentors and figureheads to others seeking acceptance in their lives. By the time she was reaching the end of high school, she had a keen interest in gender and sexuality studies. Inevitably, she took an interest in young Broadway breakout star, Justin Campbell and was fascinated by his story, along with YouTube sensation, Blaize Lamont, who was out and proud as a transgender non-binary pansexual. Blair's parents were encouraging her to apply for early-entry college and she was keen to do a case study on some of her favourite LGBT+ youth and their stories. That was when her mom suggested she try to contact their management to see if they would let her interview them for her project, but Blair thought there was no way that would happen. They would have a ridiculous amount of fanmail and people wanting to talk to them. Which is when her mom revealed that maybe she could help. It turned out that Blair's mom had worked with Andi, Sasha Stanford's best friend who had been dying of cancer. Blair's mom had done a case assessment of Andi, who had been booked to come to her hospice once the chemo stopped working. She said she spent a lot of time chatting with Andi and while she had been there at the hospital with her, Sasha dropped in briefly. Andi ended up passing away before she made it to the palliative hospice, but it turned out that Justin was now dating Sasha, and their relationship was quite public. Her mom told her she could try to contact Justin through the Broadway theatre where he stared in Footloose. After all, what did she have to lose? The small link via Andi might just catch his eye. Stranger things had happened in the world. Her mom had been right on the money. Although it took some time, eventually, a staff member from the theatre emailed Blair and told her that Justin would be happy to chat to her for her project and gave her a phone number of his management to call and schedule a meeting. It was promising, but Blair still wasn't convinced it would happen. She knew Justin's story, she knew he was ill and had a crazy schedule. Why the hell would he help a lowly high school kid like her with her college application? And indeed, there were some cancellations of the first two bookings. The management were apologetic and explained that sometimes, Justin had to cancel bookings without notice but they would be in touch again to reschedule. The thing that completely floored her was that soon, she received a phone call from a guy called Arian Alcott, Justin's Personal Assistant. He invited her to meet Justin at his home on Sunday afternoon, if she agreed to security checks and signing a confidentiality and privacy contract, and agreed to have Justin and his team okay the final product of her paper. She jumped at the chance and couldn't believe it was happening. She had no idea that the experience would pull her into the throng of a tribe of incredible people who would end up changing her life.
